AudioScape XL-305R Dual – Equally Tempered Spring Reverb, 55% Off
Not another spring emulation: the XL-305R Dual tunes 12 springs together in an equally tempered arrangement, so the decay blooms smoothly instead of splashing — AudioScape compares it to singing into open piano strings. A rare hardware design, recreated with Kiive Audio, at $39.99 instead of $89.

Description
Spring reverbs usually announce themselves: boing first, questions later. The XL-305R was always the exception. Tracing its inspiration to the original XL-305/MicMix concept, it is a spring reverb prized for how smooth and controlled its decay feels — and AudioScape reimagined the hardware over several years with input from original designer Wayne Kirkwood before bringing the concept to software with Kiive Audio.
12 Springs, Tuned as One Instrument
The heart of the design is a 12-spring assembly tuned together in an equally tempered arrangement. Rather than the conventional spring configuration that clumps reflections into metallic clatter, the tuned springs spread the response evenly, producing a smoother and more diffuse decay while keeping the physical movement and personality that make spring reverb worth having in the first place. AudioScape compares the behaviour to opening a piano, holding the dampers up and singing into the strings — resonance everywhere, chaos nowhere.
Two Reverbs in One, Depending on Drive
How the XL-305R behaves depends on how hard you feed it. At gentler input settings the effect delivers a smooth ambience that leans toward a plate-like character, sitting politely behind a source. Push the input harder — the overload indicators keep you honest about how hard — and the recognisable spring texture steps forward. That split personality makes it genuinely versatile: the same plugin that sweetens a vocal at low drive can turn a guitar into a surf-adjacent event at high drive, without swapping tools.
Dual Stereo Control, Channel by Channel
The Dual in the name is working hardware heritage: independent stereo processing based on the dual-channel architecture of the original design. Each side can be shaped on its own, with input drive and wet/dry mix controls per channel, so the stereo image and tonal balance of the reverb are yours to place rather than accept. A four-band boost/cut EQ on each channel lets you darken, brighten, thin or warm the wet signal until it fits the mix. Mono Drive links the channels for a unified source, Mono Return sums the return to mono when width needs reining in, and artist presets from contributors including Armon Jay, Matt Lange and Joe Carrell provide starting points across the plugin’s range.
Where It Sits
Vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, drums, percussion, synths, keys and full instrument buses all take the treatment well. It is the different flavour in a reverb folder otherwise full of halls and plates — a physical, characterful space that no algorithmic hall quite copies, wrapped in a vintage-inspired interface. It runs as VST3, AU and AAX with native Apple Silicon support listed for the macOS version.
Formats, Monitoring and Fit
The plugin supports VST3, AU and AAX, which places it in FL Studio via VST3, Logic Pro via AU and Pro Tools via AAX, with native Apple Silicon support listed for the macOS version. Stereo output monitoring helps you hear exactly what the dual channels are doing to the image before you commit, and the vintage-inspired interface option keeps the workflow in the period the hardware comes from. Fit-wise, think of it as the character space in the reverb folder: the halls and plates handle realism, the XL-305R handles identity. One plugin covering both the polite ambience role and the unmistakable spring role is why it tends to stay loaded once it is installed.
The Deal
Rare-hardware reverbs live in a collector market where prices only travel one direction. This one is $39.99, down from $89 — 55% off a design that took years to reimagine. If your productions need a space with a personality instead of another polished hall, the pocket-money price makes the experiment an easy one to run.
