Quantastical STRÄNG 2 – Organic Subtractive Synth, 33% Off Today
A subtractive synth with a pulse: STRÄNG 2 runs a real-time convolution body inside each voice, so the resonant character is part of the instrument itself, not an effect bolted on afterwards. At $39.99 instead of $59.99, it is the cheapest way to make classic synthesis feel organic again.

Description
Every subtractive synth in your folder shares one quiet flaw: play the same note ten times and you get the same note ten times, sample-accurate and lifeless. STRÄNG 2 was built to break exactly that habit. Its defining move is a real-time convolution body running inside each individual voice, so the oscillator interacts with a resonant physical character while you play instead of passing through a static effect afterwards. The resonance is part of the instrument itself. On the Deal Board it sits at $39.99 against a $59.99 list price, which makes it one of the cheapest genuinely different synths you can buy — not another clone of a classic, but a concept nobody else in the catalog is selling.
A Convolution Body Inside Every Voice
A conventional subtractive design generates a waveform, pushes it through a filter and calls the result a voice. STRÄNG keeps that familiar foundation and adds a tonal convolution body that the oscillator excites as part of the sound-generation process. Because the body shapes each note at the moment it is created, repeated notes can carry subtly different character, much closer to how a real resonant object responds to being played. The developer describes it as a subtractive classic made alive, and that framing is honest: nothing here is a triggered sample pretending to be resonance. The body is the sound, which gives pads, keys and melodic lines a physical presence that purely static synthesis rarely reaches.
What the 2.5 Release Adds
Version 2.5 grows the concept considerably. SYMPATHY introduces sympathetic resonance: notes you are holding can resonate through the body of notes played afterwards, the same interaction you feel from an acoustic piano with the sustain pedal down. Dedicated BLEND, DECAY and TONE controls shape that behaviour, and it shines on ambient pads, slow chord progressions and cinematic textures. The STRING section is a physically modelled exciter that can drive the body with plucked-string character built on Karplus-Strong-style synthesis and modal excitation, while SPARKLE adds a layer of shifting partials that slides between glassy, bell-like tones and bowed, reedy textures, with SHAPE, RANGE, COLOR, INHARM, TUNE and SMEAR controls and the option to route the partials through the body itself. SHADOW and SUB layers add harmonic weight and low-end foundation around the main oscillator.
Layers, Movement and Space
DUAL mode runs two complete layers at once, blended with an A/B control and fine-tune offsets for the width and detune that make pads feel enormous and leads feel expensive. Four additional freely assignable envelopes feed 12 destinations, including FOLD and TWIST, so patches can keep evolving long after the attack. Thirteen fixed sample-and-hold patterns can lock to the bar or spread across a chord, adding controlled rhythmic variation to filters and timbre without an LFO in sight. Full MPE support arrived in version 2.3, with per-note pressure routing. And when the voice itself is done, the built-in CORRIDOR reverb — a network of coupled rooms rather than a single-space algorithm — places it anywhere from an intimate corner to a cinematic hall.
341 Presets and Room to Grow
The factory library now holds 341 presets, with the newest sounds gathered in a dedicated NEW category so you can hear what 2.5 does within minutes of installing. Sound designers can export individual presets or build shareable preset packs complete with name, author information and cover artwork. A visual skin system ships with Walnut and Pink looks that can be cycled inside the plugin with the B key. STRÄNG 2 runs on macOS and Windows in AU, VST3 and AAX formats plus a standalone version, and a 14-day trial exists if you want to test the concept first.
The Deal Board Verdict
Do the maths on what is actually in the box: a real-time convolution voice architecture, sympathetic resonance, a physical-modelled string exciter, dual-layer operation, four extra envelopes, pattern-based modulation, a coupled-room reverb and 341 presets — for $39.99, a third below its $59.99 list. Producers chasing cinematic textures, ambient soundscapes, game scoring or simply a synth that does not sound like everyone else’s are the target audience. At this price STRÄNG 2 is not a gamble; it is the cheapest way to find out how much life your synthesizer parts have been missing.
