Serum 2 Afro House Presets – 40 Genre-True Patches, Free Download

Afro House exposes sound design like no other genre. Sparse arrangements and long builds mean every timbre sits in the open, and a bass that works happily inside a dense EDM drop falls apart when the groove rests on it almost alone. This free collection of 40 Serum presets was built for exactly those constraints — and the price, or lack of one, is not the most interesting thing about it.

Four Categories, Tuned to the References

The 40 presets organise into the four roles an Afro House track is actually built from. Basslines are deep, punchy and groove-focused, built to carry a sparse arrangement with physical push rather than sterile cleanliness. Leads are bright, melodic and hypnotic, designed for the repetition the genre depends on. Pads are lush and atmospheric, wide in feel but disciplined enough not to swallow a mix that is supposed to breathe. Plucks are crisp and organic, closer to a struck instrument than a synth stab, with the marimba-adjacent percussive character the style grew from. The stated reference points are the artists who defined the sound, including Black Coffee and Culoe De Song.

Genre Packs Teach What General Packs Cannot

What makes a free pack worth installing is whether the presets teach something, and genre-specific collections do that better than general-purpose ones because the constraints are visible in the patch. Every preset is fully editable — oscillators, filters, envelopes and modulation routing are all open — so a bassline that is close but not right can be adjusted at the level where it was built, and following the modulation routing of a pluck shows exactly how its organic quality was achieved. That is documentation you can play, and it is a faster route into a genre’s sound than any tutorial. Macro assignments, where used, give immediate control over the parameters that matter most in each patch.

Serum 1 Presets, Serum 2 Welcome

The presets load in Serum 2 through Xfer’s backwards compatibility with Serum 1 presets, including a Serum 1 compatibility toggle in the global tab for exact replication where the newer engine’s processing differs — older presets are not stranded by the upgrade. Serum itself is required and sold separately; this download is preset files only, synthesis instructions rather than audio, which is why the download is small and why every sound can be altered after loading. No samples or loops are included, and the requirements are simply Serum’s own: Windows 10 or later, or macOS High Sierra on Intel and Big Sur on Apple Silicon, in a 64-bit VST3, AU or AAX host with 4 GB of RAM.

Who Gets the Most From It

Producers new to Afro House who understand the arrangement but cannot get the timbres right are the first audience; DJs producing their own edits and Serum users studying sound design follow close behind. Adjacent genres share enough vocabulary — melodic house, organic house and deep tech — for many of the patches to cross over. If you are evaluating whether preset packs suit your workflow at all, a free genre-literate set is the lowest-risk way to find out, and for commercial use it is worth checking the licence supplied with the download, as terms vary between providers.

The Deal

There is no percentage to spin here: the pack is a free download, down from a $36 list price, at zero cost and zero risk. Forty genre-true patches covering the four sounds the genre is built from. If you produce Afro House — or want your house tracks to borrow its discipline — this is the easiest addition your Serum library will ever get.
